(light music) - Things have been rather quiet, particularly from Scotland Yard.

- Things will pick up, Clarence.

They always do.

- It's funny, he started calling it "our business" now instead of just "her business."

And I think it's because he feels he's put so much into it now that it is the two of them.

- Eliza has a huge amount of fondness for Clarence.

They've grown to really respect one another.

And you get a sense that they're almost like a little double act.

I'll meet you back at the office first thing.

If you don't show up, I'll send another search party.

How does that sound?

- Unsatisfactory.

He was a much more timid person.

He was just wanting to stick to the books.

He'd just come outta prison, which I think had probably traumatized him quite a lot.

I had to buy five rounds of the roughest whiskey for the whole pub.

That is the only reason I'm still alive.

- (chuckles) Well, thank you for your effort.

- Now, I think, he feels a bit braver.

Eliza's brought that out of him.

She's given him more of a sense of adventure.

She's made him believe in himself more.

Have you fallen out with the Inspector?

- Not at all.

- Just seemed rather officious and to the point.

- It's better to make him a client of mine and that's how I am with clients.

- No, you're not.

- Well, I shall be from now on.

You wonder whether they might also finish each other's sentences.

They're so different, but I think that's also part of why they love each other so much that they find one another quite amusing.

Certainly Eliza does towards Clarence, but she trusts him.

I think there is a line when she says, "I trust Clarence with my life as well as my ledgers."

So she couldn't do this without him anymore.

- Still, I'd be a lot happier if you told me everything you were doing.

- Oh, would you?

- No, on second thought, let's leave things as they are.
